Certification Requirements for each Level

Certification Requirements

Beginning on January 1, 2019, Leadership Training Course 503 will be required for RAA, RMSAA, and CAA designations. December 31, 2018, will be last date for passing the CAA Exam without the completion of LTC 503.

Beginning on January 1, 2019, Leadership Training Course 510 will be required for CMAA designation and completion of a minimum of five (5) LTI Electives, one 600 level, one 700 level, and three additional electives from any level.

Each level of certification requires the applicant:

  • Has attained a Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Received approval of the Personal Data Form for each level of certification (not including Provisional CAA)
  • Obtain a verifying signature of a sponsor (athletic administrator, principal, superintendent, state athletic/activities association staff)
  • Read the NIAAA Code of Ethical and Professional Standards

Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA)

  • Completion of LTC 501 & LTC 502

Registered Middle School Athletic Administrator (RMSAA)

  • Completion of LTC 501, LTC 502, LTC 504, LTC 700 & LTC 701
  • Employed by (or retired from) a school, school district or state high school athletic/activities association in such capacity that the administration of interscholastic athletics is (was) among job responsibilities

    Asset 7        

Provisional Certified Athletic Administrator Certificate

  • Less than two (2) years of experience as an athletic administrator
  • Must have completed LTC 501, LTC 502, LTC 504 and LTC 506

Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA)

  • Two (2) or more years of experience as an athletic administrator
  • Employed by (or retired from) a school, school district or state high school athletic/activities association in such capacity that the administration of interscholastic athletics is (was) among job responsibilities
  • Completion of LTC 501, LTC 502, LTC 504 and LTC 506
  • Successful completion of the CAA examination

    Asset 7        

Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA)

  • Attained CAA designation
  • Completion of LTC 508 in addition to a minimum of six (6) LTC electives, three (3) each from 600 level and 700 level Courses
  • Employed so that administration of interscholastic athletics is/was one’s primary responsibility
  • All requirements and points earned since CAA designation
  • Complete a practical written or oral exercise
  • Optional program implementation
